Frequently asked questions from clients.

weddings

  • Wedding ceremonies typically have 3 to 4 songs.

    • Processional Song | The song to kick off the ceremony. This is the song that the wedding party and family walks down the isle to.

    • Song for the Bride (optional) | You may choose to have a special song that accompanies the bride walking down the isle. Alternatively, if you have a smaller (or no) wedding party, you may choose to have the bride enter to the processional song.

    • Signing of the Registry | The part of the ceremony that makes things official on paper. This is where your guests can talk amongst themselves and I can provide a nice backtrack of music until the signing is complete. If you’ve completed your signing of the registry prior to your ceremony, you will not require this song.

    • Recessional | You are now newly married! The recessional music will accompany you while you exit the ceremony area followed by your wedding party. This is a joyous and celebratory moment, and the music should reflect that.

Check out my workbook on Building Your Wedding Soundtrack for all the details you need to select your wedding songs.

  • When selecting songs for your wedding ceremony, here are some guidelines to consider:

    • Personal Meaning | Choose songs that hold special significance for you as a couple. They could be songs that remind you of important moments in your relationship or have lyrics that resonate with your love story.

    • Theme and Style | Consider the overall theme and style of your wedding. If you have a traditional wedding, classical or timeless songs may be more suitable. For a modern or casual wedding, contemporary or popular songs can be a good fit.

    • Not sure? Talk to me. I provide a complimentary 20 min consultation with all of my wedding clients and I’m happy to help you brainstorm ideas or help you make a decision. You can also check out my wedding song list here to get ideas.

Remember, the most important aspect is choosing songs that reflect your love and create a memorable experience for you and your guests.

  • The prelude music is played as guests arrive and take their seats. It creates a welcoming and serene ambiance. Instrumental pieces or light classical music often work well during this time.

Here’s what you can expect from the prelude music I provide as part of my wedding package:

    • I will start 30 minutes before the ceremony begins.

    • The style of music I will play is up to you, but I recommend that it’s complementary to the style of music you select for your ceremony.

Genres of prelude music I offer include:

    • Popular selections (pop, rock, indie, folk, R&B, hip hop)

    • Classical guitar

    • Latin jazz / Spanish

Unless you have a specific preference, the genre of music you choose will determine the guitar I choose :)

  • I’ve performed in close to 200 wedding ceremonies and I’m very experienced with what to expect and working with wedding planners / clients.

  • I’ve performed at most of the popular wedding venues in Metro Vancouver and beyond. If your wedding is being held at one of these venues, odds are, I’m familiar with it.

If your event is at a private venue, that’s OK too. I’m well versed at quickly getting settled in a new performance space.

  • I offer 3 service options:

    • Wedding ceremony & prelude

    • Cocktail hour

    • Full Wedding Package | includes 30 mins of prelude music, wedding ceremony and cocktail hour

Please get in touch for more info about my rates.

I charge a 50% deposit at the time of booking to secure your date. The remaining 50% payment is due on the day of your event.

songs & Performance details

  • Yes! Check out my Song List here.

  • I have a large repertoire of music in a variety of genres that you can see on my song list here.

Also, if you would like to have a special song that is not currently on my song list, I offer custom song arrangements for an additional fee.

  • Yes! Check out my Instagram account for clips of my playing and photos from some of my performances. You can also get more of a feel for my playing by checking out my Youtube channel.

  • I play guitar of all styles. Depending on the genre of music you select for your event, I will choose an appropriate guitar.

I generally perform solo, but if you have a special request for a duo (another guitarist, or violin), this is something I can coordinate based on other professional musicians’ availability.

venues, equipment & Set Up

  • I will provide the following equipment:

    • Sound amplification - I use a Bose L1 compact tower speaker for great dispersement of sound. If your wedding is outdoors and there is no source of electricity available to me I have a Bose S1 battery powered speaker option. I need to know in advance what equipment your venue can accommodate.

    I require:

    • 3ft. x 3ft. minimum floor for myself and my equipment

    • An armless chair, though I’m happy to stand if it is better for the space

    For outdoor events:

    • There needs to be a plan B for me if it rains. My equipment can’t get wet, so I’ll need to be positioned inside or under a covered structure that will protect my equipment.

    • It’s ideal for me to be positioned under a canopy or in shade if possible during the peak of summer

  • Definitely. If there is a nearby power outlet that is in a good area for me to setup my BOSE L1 compact speaker, that would be ideal, because it offers the best sound quality. If not, no worries. I have a BOSE S1 battery powered speaker that I can take anywhere.

For outdoor events, there needs to be a plan B for me if it rains. My equipment can’t get wet, so I’ll need to be positioned inside or under a covered structure that will protect my equipment.

  • I will arrive to set up at least 30 minutes prior to the ceremony prelude time (before the ceremony begins). This will ensure I’m at the venue prior to guest arrival, with time to set up and soundcheck.

  • Yes! I can provide a wireless microphone rental for the purpose of your wedding ceremony for an additional fee.

booking & Coordination

  • I recommend that clients book 6 months in advance. This gives you a relatively decent chance of securing your wedding date. However, if you are ready to book earlier, I always suggest securing your date sooner than later. Popular dates such as weekends in the summer, can book as early as 15 months in advance.

I charge a 50% deposit at the time of booking to secure your date.

  • I’ve worked with many event planners, and I’m happy to connect with them directly if that’s easier for you! I prefer to work with 1 primary contact for each event just to keep communication streamlined.

  • These things happen, as we have experienced! ;)

If possible, I’m happy to reschedule based on my availability. However, please keep in mind that once you have booked your date, I am reserving this time specifically for you, and I may be organizing my schedule around your reservation.

If you’re dealing with unforeseen circumstances, reach out so we can discuss an alternate plan.
